Reversing school van mows down three-year-old girl

A three-year-old girl was mowed down by a school van in front of her house in Chikkajala area on Monday morning.

Srinidhi Anjan Kumar, a resident of Singahalli near Boodigere in Jala hobli, was run over by the van belonging to Narayana Educational International School in Mandur at around 7.30 am, the jurisdictional Chikkajala police said.

Srinidhi was the youngest of the two daughters of Anjan Kumar and Maithri, longtime residents of Singahalli who are into farm business.

Srinidhi’s elder sister, five-year-old Saurabhi, studies at Narayana Educational International School and the van had come to pick her up. Kempegowda, who was at the wheel, parked the van in front of the victim’s house. Accompanied by her mother Maithri, Saurabhi came out of the house and got into the van. Srinidhi, who was inside the house, rushed out and stood near the rear wheel of the vehicle. Maithri, who was waving her hand at Saurabhi, did not notice Srinidhi. Kempegowda moved the van in the reverse direction  and ran over Srinidhi. She suffered severe head injuries, said the police.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The police have booked Kempegowda under the IPC Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 A (causing death by negligence).

Call centre worker killed

A call centre employee was killed on the spot after a truck knocked him down in Peenya area at 11:30 pm on Sunday.

The victim, Rajashekar, 22, a resident of Malathalli, was sitting astride his parked bike near Kempegowda U-turn at Laggere bridge, when Puttegowda, who was driving the truck, failed to notice Rajashekhar and rammed him.

A severely injured Rajashekhar was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police arrested Puttegowda and produced him before a court, which remanded in judicial custody.
