Ragpicker kills wife in full public view

A ragpicker assaulted his wife and bludgeoned her to death in full public view at LBS Nagar, Yelahanka, on Sunday.

Police suspect marital infidelity could be the motive and arrested the man within hours of the crime.

Dheerbal Kumar, 27, had a fight with his wife Jayamma, 20, also a ragpicker, after coming home drunk around 2 pm. He accused her of marital infidelity but she strongly objected to the remark.

An angry Kumar then dragged Jayamma out of their shed and assaulted her in front of a scrapstore in full public view. He grabbed a brick and smashed it repeatedly on her head and then ran away.

Some local people took a grievously injured Jayamma to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. Police said they arrested the suspect in Yelahanka hours later.

According to the police, the couple had married two years ago. Kumar had taken to drink and often fought with Jayamma suspecting her infidelity.

3 labourers injured
Three construction workers were injured when the roof of an under-construction building at TVS Junction in Peenya 1st Stage came crashing down on them on Monday. 

Police said the workers – Bulbul, Chhotu and Khoran, all from Jharkhand – were rushed to the M S Ramaiah Hospital where they were being treated as in-patients but their condition was stable.

The men were working under the roof which was still being laid. The roof collapsed around 12.30 pm and they were trapped in the debris. Police and firefighters evacuated them to safety and took them to hospital. Police said they had registered a case of negligence against the contractor.

Train mows down man
An unidentified man died instantly when he came under a train near Nayandahalli, off Mysuru Road, early on Monday morning.

Police said the victim was aged about 35 years. The incident came to light on Monday morning when some local people noticed the body and called the police. 

The body has been kept at the Victoria Hospital. It is unclear whether it was a suicide or accident, police added.
