Infosys surged by 1.72 per cent to a 52-week high of Rs 2,592.10. The stock was later trading at Rs 2,630.05, up 1.65 per cent in the afternoon trade on BSE.
Over 3.40 lakh shares of Infosys were traded on bourses.
Top outsourcing firm TCS jumped to a year-high of Rs 774, up 3.32 per cent, on BSE. The stock was later on trading at Rs 772.40 on BSE, up 3.11 per cent in the afternoon trade.
The 13-share BSE IT index shot up 1.71 per cent to 5,283.91 points. Later on it was trading at 5,281.65 points up 1.68 per cent.
Other IT gainers were Wipro (1.88 per cent), Tech Mahindra (2.47 per cent), NIIT (0.63 per cent) and HCL Technologies (0.19 per cent).
IT stocks, which were trading the negative territory, were Mphasis (0.40 per cent), Aptech (1.31 per cent) and Moser Baer (0.39 per cent).
Meanwhile, the 30-share benchmark Sensex was trading down 0.36 per cent at 17,359.38 points at 1254 hrs.
