In a hit-and-run case, a 24-year-old pillion rider died on the spot after a cab rammed a two-wheeler on the Outer Ring Road in Banaswadi a little after Tuesday midnight.

Anvitha, a BTech graduate from Hyderabad, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her friend Siddharth when the accident occurred around 12.30 am.

Just as they reached the Outer Ring Road near Banaswadi, a speeding cab rear-ended their bike. The collision was so powerful that it threw Anvitha up in the air. She then came crashing down and sustained head injuries whereas Siddharth was grievously injured too, police said.

A passerby, who noticed the accident, rushed them to a nearby private hospital where Anvitha was declared brought dead. Siddharth is being treated. The cab driver just sped off. Police said they were trying to trace the vehicle and the driver.

A case has been registered at the Banaswadi traffic police station and investigation is being carried out. Anvitha had come to Bengaluru to meet some friends.
