The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was conferred the ‘International Public Transport’ award for its innovative ‘Staff Duty Rota System’ at Milan in Italy, recently.

The award was presented by Sir Peter Hendy, President, International Association of Public Transport (UITP), and Morris Cheung, Commissioner of Transport for London, at the 61st UITP World Congress.

The award-winning project, ‘Staff Duty Rota System’ is one of KSRTC's most appreciated projects. Officials said that KSRTC is one of the largest employing organisations having a staff strength of 37,831. On an everyday basis, 9 per cent of staff are sanctioned leave, weekly offs at 17 per cent, while 10 per cent is reserved for other exigencies and only 64 per cent of staff are available for operation.

To address these issues there was a need for a scientific method of duty allocation and leave management. Keeping this in view, KSRTC introduced allocation of duty based on seniority and counseling. This initiative was developed to bring transparency, equalise personalities, reduce discrimination, favouritism and corruption, thereby improving operational efficiency, said the official.
