Pakistan troops continued shelling and firing on civilian areas and border out posts (BoPs) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday night.

A defence spokesman said Pak troops resorted to firing on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote and Hamirpir sectors in Poonch and Manjakote sector in Rajouri district confining the population inside the houses.

Apart from mortars, Pakistan Army also resorted to firing heavy machine guns (HMGs), he said and added that the firing from Pakistan side ended at around 10 pm in Balakote sector and 11:30 pm in Poonch sector.

“Our troops responded appropriately and effectively to the firing,” the spokesman said.

The practice was going on at the LoC for the past few days,” they said and added Pakistani Rangers also targeted civilian areas and BSF positions along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura and Arnia sectors of Jammu district on Tuesday night.
