An MCD primary schoolteacher was stabbed and robbed near Sanjay Jheel in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Thursday afternoon. The victim is in a critical condition, police said.

Anil Patel, 39, has been a teacher at Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s primary school in Shashi Garden since 2005, his relative said.

Mobile snatched
The victim’s brother-in-law Anurag said: “On Thursday around 1.30 pm, he was returning from the school on his bike. Between Kotla and Shashi Garden, near the Sanjay Jheel, he went to a toilet. As he was going towards it, five juveniles came from behind and started snatching his mobile. When he resisted, one of them stabbed him with a knife.’’

“After the attack, he felt unconscious and the culprits ran away with his mobile and Rs 1,000. After few minutes, the gatekeeper of Sanjay Jheel saw him lying. He called up two more people and together tied his wounds with a cloth and put him on a bench. After 10 minutes, he gained consciousness and rang his brother,” said Anurag.

After the arrival of police in around 30 minutes, Patel was taken to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where he had to wait for two hours to get an admission in the operation theatre, his relative said.

Indifference
“Hospital authorities only bandaged him and made him wait till 5.30 pm. Only when the family members pleaded with the doctor that he was admitted into the OT at 6 pm,’’ his relative added.

According to his relative, Patel is a native of Allahabad and has been living in Delhi since 1998. He is married and has two children.

Police are trying to nab the culprits and taking the help of the victim’s family members and neighbours to ascertain if there was any personal enmity behind the attack.
