Palike purchases six new cars

Last Updated 01 October 2015, 21:14 IST

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) may be reeling under severe financial crisis. But this hasn’t hindered the Palike from purchasing six new cars, costing Rs 7.2 lakh each.

Sources in the BBMP said that of the six cars, two are meant for the two IAS officers working in the Palike while the rest are for the four standing committees.

Dharanendra Kumar, the transport-in-charge of the BBMP, said the decision to procure the cars were taken much earlier, even before the newly elected body of the BBMP.

Sources said a controversy had erupted in 2007 when some cars were scrapped and were auctioned, flouting norms. There is a condition that to auction vehicles, they should be at least 15 years old or should have travelled more than four lakh km.
