“The issue on beef and pork are irrelevant. The elected representatives should focus on the development of the region,” said JD(S) State General Secretary H H Devraj.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, he said that the BJP leaders have been creating issues out of nothing, only to provoke people.

He further said that those who speak about cattle know nothing about cattle-rearing. “Neither do they know about the problems of diary farmers. They should leave the emotional issues and should concentrate on the development in their respective regions,” he urged.

“The people are facing various problems in the district and the MLAs and MP, who are supposed to respond to the problems are turning deaf ears. The fear created among people about the Kasturirangan report and Project Tiger, are to be eliminated,” he said.

There is an urgent need to address the issues of areca yellow leaf disease, crop loss in coffee and problems of plane regions, said Devraj.

“JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy has responded to the problems of the farmers by providing Rs 50,000 to each family of farmers who has committed suicide. Other legislators should follow the model and try to get funding from their parties,” Devraj said.

Responding to a query, he said that candidates from the party will contest in MLC elections. Compared to BJP and Congress, the JD(S) is strong in the district.
