Madikeri limps back to normalcy

 After the two-day bandh in Kodagu district, following clashes over Tipu Jayanti, the town limped back to normal on Thursday as paramilitary forces took out a march to instil confidence in people.

No untoward incidents were reported on Thursday, however, situation remained grim at Siddapur, Napoklu, Nelyahudikeri and the surrounding areas. The overall situation in Kodagu is peaceful, police forces said.

Meanwhile, Sahil, who was injured during the stone pelting on the day of Tipu Jayanti, died in Mysuru hospital on Wednesday night. The last rites were performed near Nelyahudikeri on Thursday, amid tight police security. KSRTC and private buses moved in the district as usual and shops were open. 

Bandh call withdrawn

Bajrang Dal leader Ajith Kumar told mediapersons that the bandh call given by the Hindu organisations, on Friday, condemning the death of VHP leader Kuttappa, has been withdrawn.

District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao visited the residence of Kuttappa at Iggodlu. Kuttappa succumbed to injuries he sustained during the protest organised against the Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Madikeri.

Speaking with mediapersons, Dinesh Gundu Rao said that Kuttappa’s son Dali had expressed his doubts over the cause of his father’s death.

He has suspected that it was a murder and that the same was registered in the complaint.

The minister said he had ordered for an impartial probe into the incident. A decision on handing over the case for judicial probe, will be taken during the session to be held from Monday. Meanwhile, the question of cancelling Tipu Jayanti celebrations did not arise at all, he added.
