Media tycoon and former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea is appearing to be a tough nut and is not cooperating with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on various aspects of the sensational Sheena Bora murder case.

The probe agency also told a magistrate court  on Monday that he also refused to reveal crucial financial transactions. The court has remanded him to police custody till Thursday.
The 60-year-old businessman, arrested last week, was produced before the court for the second time and the CBI, which sought custodial remand for 10 days, could only secure an extension of three days.

The CBI said that Mukerjea has some “exclusive information” about the murder of his step-daughter Sheena who was set to marry his son Rahul Mukerjea. “That the accused Peter Mukerjea was interrogated during the remand period with reference to the facts and circumstances of the case, but he did not disclose the facts relevant to the case. He did not even disclose the contents of the conversation between him and Indrani (his wife) on the day of the incident (April 24, 2012) over phone,” the CBI said.

“However, he disclosed that some investments in crores of rupees where made by him and Indrani in the form of FDs in UK and India and some new immovable properties were acquired by them in UK during 2010-11, but he did not disclose the source of money for acquiring the assets. It is clear that he is deliberately concealing the facts relating to Sheena’s murder and disposal of her body. He did not explain the reason of telling lies after Sheena’s disappearance,” the CBI’s remand application stated.

Senior counsel Amit Desai, who is representing Mukerjea, said the investigation agencies had interrogated his client already for the last three months and therefore there was no need for an extension.
