Supplementary estimates of Rs 6,783 cr tabled

Expenditure to the tune of Rs 94 lakh for purchasing cars for Governor Vajubhai Vala and Rs 5.6 crore additional expenses for purchasing cars for the judges of the Karnataka High Court form part of the second instalment of the Supplementary Estimates for the financial year 2015-16 tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

In all, supplementary estimates to the tune of Rs 6,783 crore were tabled by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the finance portfolio, for the approval of the House. This amount is the additional expenditure incurred by the government over and above what is mentioned in the budget proposals for 2015-16.

Besides cars for the governor and judges, the supplementary estimates document reveals that Rs 1.8 crore has been spent for purchasing 16 new cars for MLAs under transport expenses. An additionality of Rs 68 lakh has been provided to meet the renovation expenses of the Legislative Council Secretariat.

An amount of Rs 10 lakh has been provided towards reimbursement of medical expenses of staff in the office of Resident Commissioner, Government of Karnataka, in New Delhi. This apart, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh have been provided towards reimbursement of medical expenses of staff of Karnataka Bhavan, New Delhi, and Kumara Krupa Guest House in Bengaluru, respectively.

The document reveals that an additional grant of Rs 6.64 crore has been sanctioned for 49 road development works in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in Mysuru district. Chamundeshwari was the political home turf of chief minister Siddaramaiah before be shifted to the Varuna constituency following the delimitation process in 2008.

Other additional expenses include provision of Rs 25 crore for the centenary celebrations of the University of Mysuru, Rs 10 crore for the establishment of an extension centre of Karnataka State Women’s University, Vijayapura, at Mandya.

A sum of Rs 10 crore has been provided to meet the expenses of elections of newly upgraded Urban Local Bodies and Rs 12 crore for preparation of smart city proposal for Mangaluru, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Hubballi-Dharwad, Tumakuru and Davangere.
