Last Updated 14 December 2015, 19:54 IST

The High Court will rule on Wednesday on a batch of petitions pertaining to garbage disposal in Bengaluru.

The petitions, filed by nonprofits, civil society members and others, are being heard by a division bench of Justices N Kumar and B V Nagarathna for the last two-and-a-half years.

During the hearing on Monday, CIVIC Bangalore, an NGO, suggested to the court that the outsourcing of garbage disposal to contractors be discontinued and the service of municipal workers (pourakarmikas) regularised.

The NGO also suggested formation of self-help groups of municipal workers and informal waste pickers. The court also took on record an affidavit by one PL Rao about the apathy of the State government towards scientific management of solid waste.

The bench has been monitoring the garbage management in the City through the batch of petitions for the past two-and-a-half years and passing timely orders. The final judgment in this matter will be delivered on Wednesday.
