Vijayan, a ex-serviceman and a resident of Ramamurthynagar, suffered serious bullet wounds. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital and later to NIMHANS. But the doctors again referred him to another hospital and Vijayan died enroute, the police said.

According to S J Park police, Vijayan was employed at the Bank for the past four years. On Friday morning, as usual, he came to the bank with his loaded double barrel gun. Vijayan forgot to observe an important rule: to ensure that the safety lock of his gun is properly locked.

The Bank’s assistant general manager (AGM) arrived at the branch around 10.30 am. The AGM’s driver collected his suitcase and entered the bank. While doing so, the suitcase accidentally brushed against the trigger of the guard’s gun. Instantly, a bullet pierced through Vijayan’s cheek and head.

Vijayan is survived by his wife and two children. The police have arrested the driver, Ramesh, on the charge of negligence leading to death.
