The town police on Thursday seized Rs four crore in cash which as being transported in a sports utility vehicle (SUV), without valid documents.
According to police, the car was proceeding from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh towards Chitradurga and was intercepted at a checkpost. The huge amount of money, packed in five sacks, was found in the boot of the vehicle.
Two persons - Channabasappa, the driver and Jayadeva who was accompanying him - have been arrested. Unconfirmed reports said that the cash belonged to a areca nut trader of Bheemasamudra in Chitradurga taluk. The raid was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah and Superintendent of Police M N Anuchet.
