21 bikes, furniture gutted in fire at Domino's outlet

As many as 21 bikes, furniture and other materials were gutted in a fire caused by explosion of three LPG cylinders at Dominos Pizza Hut at Marathahalli on Outer Ring Road on Friday.

There were no casualties reported in the mishap, but property worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed. The firemen took about three hours, extinguished the fire and brought the situation under control.

The mishap occurred when the welding work at the parking lot at the building was on. Real estate and other offices are located in the building and about 21 bikes were parked at the parking lot. Sparks generated out of the welding work came in contact with the waste that was dumped by the eating joint. Within minutes, the sparks led to the fire and thick smoke, said Regional Fire Officer C Gurulingaiah.

The fire and thick clouds of smoke spread all over the building and employees and customers ran outside for safety. As the fire entered the kitchen, three LPG gas cylinders inside the kitchen exploded, he said.

Intensity of the fire grew further after the explosion and the fire engulfed the entire parking lot. Twenty one bikes that were parked were completely gutted, he added.

The local police said they are yet to estimate the loss and would seek details from the eating joint owner.
