Farmer ends life, kin blame wife

A 45-year-old farmer reportedly committed suicide by setting himself afire in his home at Bhoopasandra, Nelamangala in the early hours of Wednesday.

Rangaswamaiah, the deceased, went into the kitchen when his wife and six-you-old daughter were asleep around 5.30 pm, poured kerosene over himself and set himself afire. His screams woke up his wife Bhavya and she cried for help. Neighbours and police doused the fire and took him to hospital but he was dead by then.

Rangaswamaiah’s family has blamed Bhavya for driving him to suicide, saying she frequently quarrelled with him and “tortured” him, said the Nelamangala Rural police.
