Aam Aadmi Party supporters shouted slogans from the visitors’ gallery during the oath taking ceremony of a new member from the party, elected in recent bypolls.

This was in celebration of the AAP's entry to the municipal corporations, dominated by the BJP.

Such slogan shouting by AAP supporters from the visitors’ gallery of the Assembly had evoked criticism from the chair in 2014 – the first tenure of the AAP government.

On Monday, when AAP councillor Mohd Sadiq took oath as the elected representative of Ballimaran ward, AAP workers shouted  slogans like ‘Aam Aadmi Party zindabad’ and ‘Kejriwal zindabad’. Congress councillors staged a walkout amid the commotion.

AAP’s Mohd Sadiq defeated BJP’s Nitin Tiwari by 2,066 votes from ward number 86 Ballimaran under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. While Sadiq bagged 5,926 votes, Tiwari got 3,860 votes.

On June 10, The South Corporation will hold a ceremony for welcoming its new councillors, including those from the AAP. The AAP won four wards under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. These include Vikas Nagar, Matiala, Nanakpura and Tekhand wards.

While AAP’s Ashok Kumar won from Vikas Nagar ward, AAP’s Ramesh defeated BJP’s Ashok Sharma from Matiala. AAP’s Anil Malik Bhiduri stood victorious from Nanakpura ward and AAP’s Abhishek Bhiduri won Tekhand ward.

The AAP did not win any seat in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation. The byelections to the 13 wards took place on May 15. The Aam Aadmi Party won in five wards in the civic bypolls, Congress got four in its kitty and the BJP could secure its victory in three wards, according to the results declared on May 17.

Soon after the results an independent candidate joined the Congress taking its total tally to five. Out of the 13 wards for which bypolls were held, seven were earlier held by the BJP, one by RLD and five by Independents.
