In a written reply to a question raised by JD(S) member H C Neeravari, Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said the government denotified 2,728 acres and 8 guntas in an order dated February 11, 2004. The denotified land located in Ramnagaram, Channapatna and Srirangapatna taluks.
In four separate orders issued between September 2003 and May 2004 the government denotified 32 acres and 33 guntas located in villages U M Kaval, Kommaghatta and Pillaganahalli. The minister said the land was denotified on request from the project promoter.
Excess land to be returned
In the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the government would return ‘excess land’, if any, to farmers if notified over and above the 20,193 acres stipulated in the framework agreement for BMIC project. Intervening during a discussion on the budget proposals for 2010-11, Yeddyurappa even offered to step down from office if he failed to keep up his promise.
He said his government will not deviate from the original alignment agreed for the corridor “at any cost” and even offered to have meeting with the Opposition to discuss whether any excess land had been provided to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, the company which is executing the project.
