A 20-year-old riding a motorbike died when the phone he was speaking on exploded on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Ramamurthy Nagar, near K R Puram. Police suspect Anil Kumar, a resident of 3rd Cross, Pillareddy Nagar, panicked when he was singed by the battery. He lost control, fell down and died of head injuries.

Anil Kumar was employed as a courier boy. His friend Karthik, 18, was riding pillion, and was injured in the accident. The bike was near the B Channasandra bus stop at 7.45 pm when the phone exploded, police said. The friends were returning home from work. Karthik, who works at an Indian Oil petrol station, is being treated at a private hospital.
Anil Kumar, who was speaking on his China-made LeTV phone, lost control when sparks from the battery scorched his ear and chin. Neither Anil Kumar nor Karthik was wearing a helmet.

“The phone had turned smoke-black. We are sending it to the Forensic Science Laboratory,” a senior police officer said. Anil Kumar’s body has been shifted to BR Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem, he added. Police have registered a case of unnatural death.
