To begin with, the BBMP has uploaded details of Rs 176 crore worth of works on drains, roads, parks and playgrounds it will undertake in the southern zone. It has published such details as nature of work, names and photographs of areas and Google maps showing the work areas. BBMP Chief Engineer (South Zone) S Prabhakar said tenders for the civil works would be invited next month. The move will help people track the progress of works till the end, he added.

Speaking to DH, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said details of works in all the zones would be published on the website.

The southern zone has 44 wards spread over the Assembly constituencies of Jayanagar, BTM Layout, Padmanabhanagar, Basavanagudi, Chickpet and Vijayanagar. The state government has sanctioned Rs 7,300 crore under the Nagarotthana scheme in the current fiscal year for improving Bengaluru’s civic infrastructure.

Welcoming the decision, Citizens’ Action Forum member and a resident of Jayanagar C N Kumar said the BBMP should provide information on all the zones.

3rd party inspection

The BBMP’s southern zone has hired a private firm, Project Management Consultants, for checking the quality of the civil works. “We want to monitor works through a third party,” Prabhakar said.
