The North division police have arrested 11 people and solved 41 cases of house burglary theft, dacoity, chain-snatching and bike thefts.

The police also recovered property worth Rs 72 lakh. In one case, a 28-year-old housewife was arrested by the Vidyaranyapura police. Her arrest led to the cracking of three cases of house burglary theft. She used to steal gold ornaments from neighbouring houses.

The arrested is Shilpa, a native of Holenarsipur taluk, Hassan district living in Vidyaranyapura with her husband John. The police have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 9 lakh.

After befriending and gaining the trust of her neighbours, Shilpa would ask them to show their gold valuables. She would wait for an opportunity and make away with the ornaments.

In December 2016, a woman lodged a complaint at Vidyaranyapura police station stating that an unknown person had stolen 180 grams of gold valuables from her house. Based on suspicion, Shilpa’s movements were tracked. It was learnt that she was meeting a person Suraj frequently. When Suraj was questioned, he revealed that Shilpa had loaned some money, said the police.

The police added that they picked up Shilpa for questioning, who confessed to have committed the crime. She revealed that she had stolen valuables from two other neighbours. Her husband was unaware of her criminal activities.
