Pipeline work at Anepalya Junction worsens traffic woes

Last Updated 18 April 2017, 19:37 IST
A massive pipeline work at the Anepalya Junction is the latest addition to the city’s growing traffic woes.

Office-goers using the Anepalya Road are forced to take diversion to Dairy Circle junction due to the work.

The BWSSB is laying a sanitary pipeline from Adugodi to Anepalya through which the drainage water will flow to the city’s sewage treatment plant. The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of this month, say authorities.

“We have laid an underground drainage pipeline that connects City Market to our sewage treatment plant. Work on pipeline connectivity between Anepalya and Adugodi Junction is currently in progress. The work is happening round the clock and will be completed in a week,” said Ramakrishna S M, chief engineer, waste water management zone, BWSSB.

“As a solution for the traffic congestion, we have created diversions for traffic coming from Anepalya. However, the traffic coming from Dairy Circle will be one way. The pipeline work is expected to be completed by the end of this month,” said Abhishek Goyal, deputy commissioner of police, traffic (east division).

“I commute from Madiwala to MG Road to reach office and pass by the Anepalya Junction. The route that usually takes me 45 minutes to commute is now taking 90 minutes. Also, there was no prior intimation about this work, which could have helped us take an alternative route,” said Saurabh Gupta, a software professional.

“The city’s traffic is becoming a nightmare. On Monday, an ambulance got stuck in the route on its way to Jayadeva Hospital. The usual time taken to cover the distance between Brigade Road and Dairy Circle is 20 minutes, but now it takes over an hour. Such work should be carried out during non-office hours to avoid inconvenience to people,” said Shikha Nagaraj, a bank employee.
