India moved the International Court of Justice to save the life of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav as his chances of getting justice in Pakistan were slim.
“It (moving the ICJ) is a carefully considered decision in the interest of a citizen of India as he is facing threat to his life,” Gopal Baglay, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said on Wednesday. His comment came a day after President of International Court of Justice, Judge Ronny Abraham, wrote to Pakistan Prime Minister M Nawaz Sharif, calling upon his government not to carry out the death sentence awarded to Jadhav till the court decided on the merit of the case.
“It was a decision to save the life of a son of India,” added Baglay. New Delhi told the ICJ that Jadhav had been abducted from Iran, where he had been running a business. Islamabad later claimed that he had illegally entered Pakistan from Iran and was arrested from Balochistan.
