Top scientists welcome decision to build 10 desi n-reactors

Top nuclear scientists of the country have welcomed the Modi government's decision to sanction construction of 10 atomic power plants using indigenous technology.

 “We warmly welcome the decision taken by the Government of India on May 17, 2017 approving construction of 10 indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors with a total installed capacity of 7000MW,” a joint statement signed by top retired nuclear scientists said.

 “It is a timely and bold step taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi with far reaching dividends,” said the statement issued by former Chairmen of the Atomic Energy Commission M R Srinivasan, Anil Kakodkar, Srikumar Banerjee and R K Sinha. Former Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited S K Jain and R B Grover, Homi Bhabha Chair, Department of Atomic Energy were also signatories to the statement.

 They said the decision to construct reactors in fleet mode has created new enthusiasm and optimism among domestic equipment manufacturing industry, which was poised to grow in tandem with our programme, bringing India to the frontline of global nuclear manufacturing and supply chain.
