Archana crowns Indian domination

Karnataka’s Archana Kamath bagged a treble in India’s excellent show at the South Asian Junior Table Tennis championship which concluded here on Sunday.

Archana clinched gold in the singles, doubles and team event categories to cap off a memorable tournament.
On the final day, India added six more gold to win all 10 gold medals on offer.

In the singles’ title clash, Archana defeated compatriot Priyanka Pareekh 3-0 to emerge champion.
Earlier, Archana and Priyanaka drubbed Sri Lanka in the doubles summit tie 3-0.

On the opening day of the meet, Archana, along with Priyanka, Moumita Datta and Selena Deepthi had won the team championship following their wins over Pakistan, Maldives and hosts Sri Lanka. In junior boys’ final, top-seed Manav Thakkar defeated Parth Virmani 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9.


Apart from their 10 gold medals, India won four silver to finish with 14 medals.

Indian and Sri Lanka have booked their berths in the Asian Junior meet to be held in Ansan, Korea (June 29 -July 4).
