The buzz on Tamil Superstar Rajnikanth plunging into politics appear to be growing lowder with the matinee idol suddenly asserting his "true Tamil" roots over his Karnataka lineage. And the BJP is making renewed effort to woo the actor to become its lead character to fill void in party's state leadership in Tamil Nadu.

After BJP president Amit Shah's comment on Sunday that "all good people are welcome to join politics" at a news channel function that did nothing to arrest beginning of hype around a reel life hero wanting to fish into southern political waters,  Union minister Nitin Gadkari also joined the move to court Rajnikanth.

The minister was more candid in an interview to a news channel, for he said  an "appropriate place" exists for the star in the party. “He is welcome into politics and it is my request for him to think about the BJP. There is an appropriate place for him in the party,” he said.

The BJP leadership has been trying to get Rajnikanth on board prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Union home minister Rajnath Singh, who was party president then, had equally made efforts to get him to join the BJP to make him the mascot of the umbrella coalition of different regional parties, said party sources. But that attempt did not go too far.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy, however, has strong reservations over Rajnikanth's foray into politics. "Rajinikanth does not fit into the current political situation in TN. He has no idea about the constitution, fundamental rights or any such matter. It is better he sticks to cinema, since he can deliver dialogues well and entertain people," Swamy told a news agency.

Political parties regularly attempt to capatalise popularity of stars in the entertainment and sporting erana to bridge organisational weakness for quckier growth in states in short span of time.  In the run up to the 2014 elections, the BJP roped in Bollywood singer Babul Suprio and made him a minister at the centre after he won elections in West Bengal.  In Andhra Pradesh, it worked out an understanding with actor Pawan Kalyan's Janasena Party.
