School bus mows down LGK student

A four-year-old girl was killed on the spot when her school bus knocked her down as soon as she alighted from it near her house in Arashinakunte, off Tumakauru Road on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased, Varsha, was studying LKG at a private school and was returning home in the school bus along with her elder brother Prajwal (7), a second standard student at the same school, the police said.

After the bus reached their house, Varsha got down first followed by Prajwal. The driver did not notice Varsha while she was crossing the road ahead of the bus. He moved the bus and it knocked her down, causing grievous head injuries, the police added. A shocked Prajwal screamed and a few neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted Varsha to a nearby hospital. She was declared brought dead.

Her body was then shifted to a government hospital for postmortem. On being informed, the police rushed to the spot, seized the bus and arrested the driver Basavaraju.The Nelamangala Traffic police have registered a case of death due to rash and negligent driving.
