BBMP gives alternative space for ABC centre

Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Samsthe (SSS), an NGO and animal birth control (ABC) unit, which has been resisting BBMP’s move to shift it out of the government veterinary hospital on Queen’s Road, has been provided an alternative accommodation at Jakkur by the civic body.

Dr Akshay Prakash, co-founder and trustee, SSS said the BBMP had asked the NGO to move out to enable construction of the multispecialty hospital, planned by the Animal Husbandry department. The demolition of the existing buildings has already begun.

“The BBMP has undertaken to pay the rent for the Jakkur accommodation. But it is still under construction and might take 10 to 15 days to be completed. We need some time to move out. We were asked to move out at short notice,” he said. The organisation was shown a few more places in Halasuru and Ganganagar before the Jakkur facility was finalised.

However, a senior official of the animal husbandry department in BBMP, who did not wish to be named, said: “We gave them ample time. Now, we have cut the power connection in keeping with our orders but they still have not vacated the place.”

Meanwhile, Vinay Moray, co-founder, SSS said, “The government had drafted a notice on June 3 saying we had to vacate on the next day. It reached us on June 5. I had immediately approached the animal husbandry minister and the BBMP commissioner to stop this.”
