A small tunnel was discovered at over a century-old house at Kolada Beedi in the historical town on Monday.

The tunnel was found at the house of Shashikumar. Speaking to DH, Shashikumar said that he usually parks his scooter inside the house. “On Monday, I was parking my scooter as usual using the centre stand, when a portion of the cement floor caved in. When I removed the piece of cement, a six-foot-deep pit underneath, leading to a tunnel to its right side was found,” he said.

The tunnel is four-foot=wide and 15-foot-long. Three persons can enter the tunnel at a time. The tunnel is made of baked bricks and, cement and stone slabs are found at several places. Details of when it was constructed and for what purpose are yet to be ascertained.

A similar tunnel was found at the grounds near the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple about two years ago.

“The house is around 120 years old. I have been living with my mother in the house for the last several years. A tunnel inside the house has come as a surprise to us,” said Shashikumar.
