Notice to BU on registrar issue

The petitioners K K Seethamma, Professor and Chairman, Department of Economics, BU; Dr K Puttaraju, Dean, faculty of Science and Professor, Department of Communications and others have moved the High Court challenging the appointment of Dr M G Krishnan,
Professor, Department of Political Science as the Registrar. The petitioners submitted that the appointment order dated November 13, 2009, by the State government was illegal, under Section 17 (1) of Karnataka State University Act.

They added that as per the Act only those candidates from All India Service cadre are entitled for appointment as registrars and not professors and lecturers. The petitioners had sought directions to set aside the appointment.  Justice Ajit Gunjal, who heard the matter has ordered emergent notice to Varsity and others in this connection.
