French firm keen to build waste-to-energy plant

Last Updated 23 October 2017, 20:31 IST

A French company has expressed interest in building a waste-to-energy plant at Chikkanagamangala in Anekal taluk.

Representatives of French company 3WAYSTE met Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Minister K J George, BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad and Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner, solid waste management, on Monday.

The commissioner said the proposal has been sent to the urban development board for approval.

“A 500-tonne plant at an estimated cost of Rs 2,260 crore will be built by the company. The civic body will not spend any money on this. The electricity generated in this plant will be bought by Bescom at Rs 7.09 per unit,” said Sarfaraz Khan.

He also said the BBMP alone will not be able to provide 500 tonnes of waste. “While BBMP can supply 300 tonnes, the remaining 200 tonnes will be procured from private bodies,” he said. About 90% of this will be converted into electrical energy and the remaining waste will be used as manure.
