Keep town clean during Mahamastakabhisheka: seer

Jain seer Charukeerthi Bhattaraka swami has called upon people to join hands in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene at the Jain religious shrine during Mahamastakabhisheka.

Interacting with the elected representatives and teachers of surrounding schools at Kanaji Yatrikashrama here on Sunday, he said teachers should create awareness among the youth on maintaining cleanliness. He pointed out that the Jinnathapura and Santhe road have turned into an eyesore as garbage is strewn all over the place.

He also urged the authorities concerned to instal signboards at the circle near Shravanabelagola for the benefit of tourists. He also stressed on laying scientific road humps and added that Rs 4.5 crore has been sanctioned for laying concrete roads.

A decision was taken to place dustbins near the schools and to form a separate committee to maintain cleanliness during the festival.

As the district administration has declared holidays for schools from February 12 to 25 in view of Mahamastakabhisheka, the school authorities demanded that the holidays should be declared from February 6, from when the vehicular traffic has been banned in the town.

ZP member Mamatha Ramesh, Gram Panchayat president Hema Prabhakar and teachers of surrounding schools were present.
