A 70-year-old woman died on the spot when a truck ran her over at Naganathapura junction, Hosur Road, in southern Bengaluru on Tuesday morning.
Lakshmamma, who lived with her son, Shivashankar, in Doddanagamangala near Parappana Agrahara, had left for her hometown Periyapatna to collect the monthly pension. She was crossing the road to reach the bus stop when the truck struck her. The vehicle was carrying sand and coming to the city from Hosur. Members of the public caught its driver, Amruth Kumar, and turned him over to the jurisdictional Electronics City traffic police.
Police seized the truck and registered a case of causing death due to negligence and rash driving. Kumar was produced before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody.
