JOIN US'Have understood my game a great deal'
It was a fruitful 2017 for golfer Vani Kapoor, who experienced her full first year on Ladies European Tour (LET), besides carving out some impressive wins on domestic circuit. The 23-year-old was excited about the coming season where she hopes put up a strong performance.
The Gurugram golfer had won four out of the six tournaments on the Indian tour last year besides playing nine events on LET. "The year 2017 helped me understand a lot about the game. The importance of being in the present and mastering over little parts of my game actually made a huge impact. I am all charged up for a better 2018," Vani said on the sidelines of the launch of "Thai Golf Passport", a travel loyalty programme that offers Indian golfers a seamless experience of the sport in Thailand.
"Now I will be travelling for the next couple of months, first to Australia then South Africa."
Vani said 2017 India Open, where she finished sixth, proved to be the turning point for her. "The 2017 Indian Open was the turning point for me. I was really nervous on the final day but I kept my nerves together and just went out there to enjoy the moment. That's something that has given me a lot of confidence," she said.
"I feel I have grown a lot last year. My game has matured and I have also matured mentally, which helped me get a full Tour Card for 2018. This also means I am actually going to get many more tournaments because as a rookie you don't get to play much."
The petite golfer was clear her focus would be on European Tour this season. "Actually the European Tour will have more tournaments this year, which is 12 but they are planning to add a few more probably taking it to 15," she said, "This year my goal is not to keep experimenting with my game. Whatever I had to change, I am done with last year. It needs to be more feel based."
