190 kg marijuana seized in city

Cracking the whip on the sale of marijuana in the city, the police arrested six people and recovered 135 kg of the narcotic which was being sold to customers from a thermocol box kept under a heap of dry fish.

Based on a tip-off, the Hulimavu police arrested three painters from near T John College on Bannerghatta Road.

The accused are Govindaraj (29), Basavaraj (28) and Magendra (22). The prime accused, Sampath Ram from Vijayawada, is absconding.

A senior police officer said six months ago, Sampath had contacted the trio and offered them to sell marijuana so that they can earn easy money.

Magendra was selling marijuana in Vijayawada in a similar way.

Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said since they were packing fish along with marijuana, the police in the check-post only got the smell of raw fish.

Another accused N Naveen (29), who was arrested by the Koramangala police, was working as a daily wage labourer.

The police seized 40 kg of marijuana from his house.

The Mico Layout police seized 15 kg marijuana and arrested Jagar Samal (30) and Lokanath Sahani (32), both from Odisha. They used to bring marijuana from Odisha. They were caught red-handed at BTM Layout II Stage on Tuesday.
