The city's traffic is a Himalayan problem, worst than Mumbai, where the traffic movement is organised despite being heavy in nature, observed the high court on Friday.

The observation came while a division bench of Justice H G Ramesh and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Namma Bengaluru Foundation and Citizens' Action Forum.

While hearing a matter regarding approval to BDA's Revised Master Plan-2031, the court observed that there was a need for a single comprehensive body of experts from all fields, including traffic, water, electricity and various others, to effectively address the traffic concerns.

On being asked about the number of vehicles in the city, petitioners' counsel stated that over 50 lakh two-wheelers and over 14 lakh four-wheelers ply on the city roads every single day resulting in a heavy traffic.

The counsel also informed that the city has over 80 lakh population.

The court adjourned the matter.
