'31,731 eligible SC/ST beneficiaries given job cards under MGNREGS'

Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Dr M R Ravi said that all the 31,731 eligible families from SC/ST community have been issued with job cards under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking to reporters here, Ravi said that till December 2016, only 11,740 eligible SC/ST beneficiary families had received job cards, which accounts for 37% of the job cards issued in the district. A drive was initiated in the district to enroll all the eligible SC/ST beneficiaries.

Further, he said that two taluks namely, Belthangady and Sullia, have achieved a 100% target in utilising the funds under MGNREGS. As many as 85 gram panchayats have achieved 100% target in implementing the scheme.

Against the target of 4,16,417 person-days, Belthangady taluk has recorded 4,27,041 person-days by utilising a sum of Rs 17.46 crore, while the target for Sullia was generating 1,92,568 person-days and taluk has achieved 1,93,629 person-days by utilising a sum of Rs 8.63 crore.

For the first time since the implementation of MGNREGS, the district has spent Rs 61.74 crore. In 2017-18, 15,12,780 person-days have been generated," he said.

He further said that the works on 16 Sanjeevini worksheds are in progress in the district. A total of 33 works have been sanctioned in the district. Under Jaladhara, vented dams are being constructed. Already 460 works have been taken up, of which 266 works have been completed and 1,13,070 person-days were generated through the works on vented dams.
