The S&P CNX Nifty regained the psychological 5,000 level after falling below that level earlier in the day, while BSE Sensex recovered nearly 300 points from its day’s low.
The Sensex at BSE fell 159.04 points or 0.94 per cent to close at 16,835.56 points.
The broadly based S&P CNX Nifty at NSE declined 33.60 points or 0.66 per cent to settle at 5059.90 in the closing, which is off the day’s low of 4,966.25 points.
As far as broader indices go, the BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.21 per cent, while the BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.68 per cent.
