Dr Patil will act as the Ambassador and be the face of an area, which is home to the London Eye, Royal Festival Hall, Lambeth Palace, and more than 50 parliamentarians.
It is believed that Dr Patil is the first-ever medical doctor of Indian origin to occupy this office in Great Britain.

The official Mayoral swearing-in ceremony was held on May 26, at Brixton Town Hall in Lambeth. It was attended by members of the Kannada diaspora and the longest serving Asian Parliamentarian in Britain, Rt Hon Keith Vaz.

Dr Neeraj Patil hails from Kamlapur, a small village in Gulbarga district. His grandfather, Shankar Shetty Patil, was an MLA in the early 70s, and his mother works as the Medical Director of Basaweshwar Hospital in Gulbarga.
Dr Patil did his medicine at the M R Medical College in Gulbarga, and migrated to Britain in 1994.

He was first elected as Councillor in 2006. Currently, he is also the national general secretary of the Labour Party’s Ethnic Minority Task Force.
