Love drove her to kill husband

They have also arrested three others, said to be Shivakumar’s friends. The couple married six years ago, and have two children. But Nagaveni fell in love with Shivakumar during her bus rides to her work place.

Soon, the relationship between Nagaveni and Shivakumar became so strong, that they decided to kill Cheluvaraju, when the latter began objecting to their dalliance.

On May 2, a tired Cheuluvaraju had returned home from work and went to sleep. His wife invited Shivakumar and the two allegedly smothered him to death using a pillow.

Later, they took the help of Shivakumar’s friends - Venugopal, Sreedhar and Mahalinga to shift the body and bury it next to their house in Ghantakanadoddi.

Although the crime took place on May 2, Nagavaveni along with the deceased mother lodged a missing complaint only on August 17.

Police swung into action and began investigating. They found that Nagaveni was close to Shivakumar and the two were seen together often. The two were summoned to the police station. Under questioning, they came up with contradicting statements that failed to reconcile. Nagaveni broke down and confessed to the murder. The police took permission from the court and exhumed the body and collected vital evidence required to nail the culprits.
