Exclusive police station for Commonwealth Games Village

Last Updated 12 September 2010, 10:50 IST

The facility to be opened in a couple of days will be manned by police personnel not less than the rank of Sub Inspectors who are proficient in English. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur will head the team.

The police station is meant only to investigate any complaint filed by athletes, their families and officials of Commonwealth Games as well as cases against them, a senior police official said.

It is being set up under Delhi Police's Crime Branch and "experienced, well trained and English-proficient". Inspectors and Sub Inspectors will man the facility, the official said.

"The idea is to speedily solve cases related to athletes and delegates. Crime Branch officials will help them in the investigations," the official said.

Athletes, delegates or public can report any offence to any police station but it will be transferred to the Games police station immediately for further investigations and speedy resolution, the official said.

"If something happens, for example, in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, they can report it there. No one can tell them that you go to Games Village police station. However, it will be immediately transfered to the Games police station for speedy resolution," the official said.

A notification with regard to the establishment of the police station has been issued.
