Bhatnagar award for 3 B'lore scientists

Swapan K Pati of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, G K Ananthasuresh of the Indian Institute of Science and Umesh Vasudeo Waghmare, the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, bagged the award for their work in Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Physical Sciences, respectively.

Sanjeev Galande of National Centre for Cell Science, Pune (presently at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune) and Shubha Tole of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, are the awardees in the Biological Sciences category.

Other recipients of the award include Sandeep Verma, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (Chemical Sciences), Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (Engineering Sciences), Mitali Mukerji, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi, (Medical Sciences) and Kalobaran Maiti, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai (Physical Sciences).

The awards were announced at a function to mark the foundation day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a plaque and will be given by the prime minister later this year.

No award is being given for Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences and Mathematical Sciences this year.
