Government monitoring flood relief in coastal districts

Last Updated 30 May 2018, 19:10 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday said his government was closely monitoring the rain havoc in the coastal districts and necessary steps had been taken to provide relief to flood victims.

Speaking to reporters, the chief minister dismissed reports in a section of the media that the government had failed to come to the aid of flood victims in the coastal districts.

“The national media has been reporting that the government did not go to the aid of the flood victims. This is false. I am getting an hourly report. We are closely monitoring the situation there,” he said, adding that compensation was disbursed to victims on Tuesday midnight itself.

Kumaraswamy said that while measures had been taken to rehabilitate those displaced from their homes, efforts were on to clear out the trees and electricity poles that were uprooted.

He also said that rain-ravaged roads were being repaired and power connection would restored at the earliest. Holidays for schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will be extended, if required, he added.
