<p>New Delhi: Ashoka University associate professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad was arrested by Haryana Police on Sunday over his social media post on Operation Sindoor, following a complaint filed by a BJP Yuva Morcha leader in Haryana.</p><p>Ajeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rai, said that Mahmudabad was arrested from Delhi.</p><p>The arrest comes days after the Haryana State Commission for Women issued a notice to the associate professor regarding his remarks on Operation Sindoor, in which he described the media briefing conducted by women officers as “optics” and "just hypocrisy".</p><p>In a Facebook post cited in the commission’s notice, Mahmudabad said, “I am very happy to see so many right-wing commentators applauding Colonel Sophia Qureishi, but perhaps they could also equally loudly demand that the victims of mob lynchings, arbitrary bulldozing and others who are victims of the BJP’s hate-mongering be protected as Indian citizens.”</p>.Himanta urges Rahul to drop 'Assam MP' from Cong team for diplomatic outreach after Op Sindoor.<p>The women's commission had issued summons to Mahmudabad on May 12, stating that his comments raised concerns about the disparagement of women in uniform — including Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh — undermining their roles as professional officers, and misrepresenting facts through repeated references to “genocide", “dehumanisation", and “hypocrisy", while attributing malicious intent to the Indian government.</p><p>Wing Commander Singh had briefed the media alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Col Qureshi on Operation Sindoor. </p><p>In a public statement on May 14, Mahmudabad, head of the political science department, defended his comments, saying that he had “exercised his fundamental right to freedom of thought and speech in order to promote peace and harmony and applaud the Indian armed forces for their resolute action".</p>.<p>Ashoka University, in its statement, said, “Comments made by a faculty member on his personal social media pages do not represent the opinion of the university. These statements have been made by him independently in his individual capacity.”</p><p>The associate professor later said that the women's panel "misread" his comments.</p>
