Eight held for kidnapping gold merchant

The Upparpet police have arrested eight persons, who had abducted a gold merchant from Kempe Gowda bus stand recently.

They recovered 559 grams of gold worth of Rs 12 lakh and Rs 2.92 lakh in cash. The eight persons were arrested from Chennai, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh and Thrissur in Kerala.

Around a month ago, the gang posing as Vellore police abducted Drukeshin Khatri, a gold merchant from the City. The victim had gone to Andhra Pradesh and had returned to the City after purchasing gold. The gang members bundled the victim into an SUV claiming themselves as police personnel from Vellore. They told him they are questioning him as they had received information about him having unaccounted money in his possession. On the way, they robbed the victim of his gold valuables and cash and fled the spot, added the police.
