Four people from Sullia taluk who have received notices from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the murder of Gauri Lankesh have filed applications seeking anticipatory bail before the first additional district and sessions court.

Mohan Chantala, Yathish Mogra, Yathin Ambekallu and Kumudaksha Jalumane have filed applications seeking anticipatory bail on August 7.

The SIT on July 27 had served notices to the four. Fearing arrest, all four had filed an application seeking anticipatory bail. Advocate S P Chengappa is the counsel for the applicants.

The public prosecutor contended that the applicants cannot file for anticipatory bail in Mangaluru for a case registered in Bengaluru.

The public prosecutor also contended that they cannot get bail as provisions on Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act had been invoked on them.

After hearing the applicants and the public prosecutor, the court has posted the hearing to September 20.
