<p>Ignoring police’s warning - on more than one occasion - to stay away from drug racket has proved too costly to this 25-year-old student of dental sciences in a city’s private college, who is now in judicial custody. A native of Tumakuru, the youth was arrested recently by the city police along with four others, including two Nigerians in connection with a drug case. </p><p>Police sources said that the youth was allegedly buying MDMA or commonly called as Ecstasy - a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception - from peddlers to allegedly sell it among youths in the city. He was allegedly found doing transactions worth Rs 50,000 with drug peddlers, on a monthly basis, said police sources.</p><p>“Despite warnings by the police to stay away from it earlier, he paid no attention to their advice,” police sources pointed out. </p><p>Police sources further said that the youth allegedly receive one gram drugs at Rs 4,000 against the international price of Rs 7,000 in the market. He would allegedly sell the same to others in the city. However, the consumers, who are youths, have not been made accused in the case considering their future, said the sources.</p><p>Meanwhile, the hair and blood samples of the accused have been sent to Forensic Science laboratory and the report is awaited.</p><p>It is said that the youth hails from a well-to-do family. While his father is a physician, his mother is a pharmacist. He had been consuming MDMA drugs while pursuing his degree in dental sciences, it is alleged.</p><p>Highly reliable sources confirmed that the youth was warned earlier in connection with drugs case and was strictly instructed to stay away from it. But he allegedly went ahead and carried on his drugs peddling activities. So, he was booked in the case, the sources added. </p><p>Bleak future </p><p>Sources in the police stated that the youth has to fight his case in the court. If convicted, his career as a practicing dentist may not take off. </p><p>When <em>DH</em> contacted, Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth said, drugs menace is not confined to Davangere alone. It is there across the country. When police go deeper into such cases, bitter truths surface. “Our only aim is to free the society from drugs and ensure that youths tread the right path in their lives,” SP said.</p>
