<p>Belagavi: Members of the Brahmin community, under the banner of Belagavi District Samast Brahmin Samaj, staged protests here on Monday against the removal of ‘Janivara’ of two students appearing for the Common Entrance Test (CET) by the staff at examination centres at Shivamogga and Bidar. </p><p>They condemned the action and demanded stringent action against those responsible for the incident and demanded that such incidents do not recur.</p><p>The Brahmin community members assembled at Channamma Circle and blocked traffic movement by forming a human chain. They also staged a sit-in protest and displayed placards demanding ‘Save Janivara’. Slogans were raised against the government and a rally was taken out to the Deputy Commissioner's office.</p><p>MLA Abhay Patil supported the protest by the Brahmin community and took part in it. He said the removal of Janivara was an insult meted out to not just the Brahmin community but to the entire Hindu community. The mere transfer of the government staff responsible for it was not sufficient. Criminal cases should be filed against them and they should be dismissed from service, he said.</p><p>He said it's the first time such an incident has taken place, and it appears to have been instigated. "If the government does not take action against the personnel responsible, it will appear that the government is responsible for it. A situation could also arise wherein the hands of those who cut and removed the Janivara could be chopped off in the coming days," he said</p><p>The academic progress of the students who suffered trauma due to Janivara being removed should not be affected. Hence government should take measures to ensure that their interests are protected, he said.</p>.Suspend officer who removed student’s ‘Janivara’: MLA Bellad.<p>Brahmin community leader Anil Potdar said: "We are a peace-loving community and are preferred across the world as we do not create problems for anybody. We follow the Constitution and do not trouble others. The removal of Janivara of students is not acceptable and a time could come when we would be forced to carry swords to examination centres. Brahmin community people are peace-loving, but those instigating us should also know that we can wear ‘Parashuram Avatar’ if needed," he said.</p><p>Srinivas of Krishna Mutt spoke about the religious importance of wearing Janivara by the Brahmin community. He condemned the Janivara removal of students and demanded stringent measures against those responsible for it.</p><p>A memorandum stating the demands of the community was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan.</p><p>Community leaders R S Mutalik, Gururaj Joshi, Bharat Deshpande, Anand Kulkarni, Akshay Kulkarni, Krishna Bhat, Suhas Sanglikar, Jayateerth Savadatti, Anushree Desphande, Priya Puranik and others were present.</p>
