<p>‘Srishti 2012,’ is a platform for innovation. It gives an opening for conceptualisation, thought process, development and invention, said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda after inaugurating the State-level project exhibition and competition organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat at Sahyadri College of Engineering in Mangalore on Saturday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“With various inventions, students find solutions for problems in the society. One student’s invention can motivate another. Every engineering college should have a research center,” he stressed.<br /><br />The State government in the last four years has opened 11 engineering colleges and 43 polytechnics. However, this year, it has decided not to open new engineering colleges. Instead, there are plans to upgrade and fully-equip the existing colleges. Many polytechnics have been upgraded to engineering colleges, he said.<br /><br />World has truly become a global village. New technologies are emerging everyday. The development that took place in last 100 years has taken place in 20 years. The engineers should keep up to this fast pace, he said and added that students should have a selfless attitude and keep the countries progress in mind.<br /><br />Engineering students should learn to apply their academic fundamentals practically. Ability to communicate, innovate, commitment are qualities each student should inculcate, said Tata Consultancy Services Centre Head E S Chakravarthy.<br /><br /> “This expo should be a learning experience. Do not stick on to your projects and stalls. Instead visit other people’s stalls and try to learn as much as possible,” he said.<br /><br />Bhandary Foundation President Manjunath Bhandary presided over the programme.<br /><br />Projects<br /><br />Sahyadri College of Engineering was buzzing with activity. Students from different parts of the State were busy setting up their projects for the exhibition. <br /><br />One could see racing cars, flying helicopters, electricity generating machines, and other eye-catchy innovations at the venue.<br /><br />Students of Basaweshwara Engineering college from Bagalkot had put up a display of different cars designed by them.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, College Student Suresh Kadly explained that the team has created ‘F3800’ racer, an 800cc, 15 HP racing car. The car runs on a petrol engine and has been used by the college in inter-university racing competitions.<br /><br />The college team has also designed a dirt racing car which can easily be driven in deserts, trenches, grasslands.<br /><br />“We have designed a quad-bike which can climb a hill of 35 degree inclination. This bike is given four wheels for stability and has independent suspension in front and mono-suspension in the back,” says BEC college student Venugopal.<br /><br />PNS Women’s Institute of Technology has created ‘Hybrid power generator.’ “Here power is generated using wind and solar energy. This power gets stored in a battery which can be used in case of absence of wind and sun,” says College student Soumya.<br /><br />‘Different party, same heart’<br /><br />It is a noted fact that Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad organised ‘Srishti 2012’ in a College run by a Congress leader.<br /><br />“Even if party is different, heart is same. We should not allow political motives interfere in development programmes.
